The Marine Corps League was founded by Major General Commandant, John A. Lejeune, in 1923 and chartered by an Act of Congress on August 4, 1937. Its membership of nearly 75,000 is primarily comprised of honorably discharged Marine Veterans, Active Duty, Retired and Reserve Marines Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsmen and FMF Navy Chaplains. It includes officer, enlisted, male and female members. Members of other services qualify for League membership so long as they agree with the auspices of the U.S. Marine Corps and the Marine Corps League. The Housatonic Detachment was chartered March 17, 2003. We are fortunate to have members from many eras and Marines that held ranks from Private to Colonel. Cold War era Marines and Combat Marines that served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom. Needless to say, any gathering of our members results in many “sea stories”. You will hear stories about boot camp, hitting the beach on Iwo Jima, flying a CH46 in Iraq and what it was like to be a Grunt in Vietnam.
